Satcher, Hall Trial in Muscogee County
In mid-September, Burt Satcher and Ian Hall teamed up to defend a Columbus chiropractor in a wrongful death trial that lasted seven days in Columbus, GA, generally thought of as one of the state’s most liberal plaintiff’s venues. The plaintiffs alleged negligence in the performance of a cervical manipulation on the decedent causing a vertebral artery dissection. It was further claimed that this injury caused a stroke and the decedent’s eventual death. Burt and Ian opposed a team of three accomplished plaintiff’s attorneys who had recently tried a carotid artery dissection case in the same venue resulting in a verdict in excess of $9 million. During closing argument plaintiff’s attorneys asked the jury for an award in excess of $12 million. After two days of deliberation by the jury, a verdict was returned for the plaintiff for approximately 1/60 of the amount sought in closing.
